South Carolina Child Support
Child support is essentially set by statute and other unusual scenarios. Child support will be awarded to the primary custodial parent, unless that parent’s earnings is disproportionately more than that of the secondary custodial parent, in accordance with the South Carolina Child Support Guidelines.
The Guidelines are based upon the earnings of both parties to determine the preliminary amount of child support for their combined income level. To this amount is added the actual cost of health insurance (for the children only) and the expenses of day care. The child support responsibility is the percentage of the overall child support obligation (consisting of medical insurance and day care) that their income bears to the combined earnings of the parties. Various calculations are applied depending on the variety of overnights a parent has the child/children each year.
